FOCUS Gesundheit honors Lüdenscheid-based specialty clinic in no less than four categories
A particularly high level of expertise has distinguished the Hellersen Sports Clinic on a national level for over 75 years. This has now been proven once again by the award from FOCUS Gesundheit: in no less than four categories, the Lüdenscheid-based specialty clinic is listed as a TOP clinic at regional as well as national level in the 2023 list of physicians.
1,659 public hospitals as well as the 14,346 specialist clinics affiliated to them were assessed in 59 different specialties. The specialty clinic in the Sauerland region with over 400 employees and 260 planned beds was named TOP Regional Hospital in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as TOP Specialist Clinic in the focus areas of hip surgery, spine surgery and sports medicine/orthopedics.
In total, the Hellersen Sports Clinic received awards in four categories:
- TOP Regional HospitalNorth Rhine-Westphalia
- TOP National Specialist Clinic for Spine Surgery
- TOP National Specialist Clinic for Sports Medicine
- TOP NationalSpecialist Clinic for Hip Surgery
"In the past, with Dr. Ulrich Schneider, Dr. Oliver Meier and Dr. Ralph Spintge, doctors from our clinic have already been recommended as TOP physicians and included in the list of doctors. We are all the more pleased to have now received an award as a clinic for the first time - and then in four categories," says Dirk Burghaus, Chairman of the Board of the Hellersen Sports Clinic. "This award once again underscores the high level of expertise and quality that we offer our patients."

To determine Germany's TOP hospitals, FOCUS Gesundheit works together with the research institute FactField. In addition to a comprehensive survey of all public hospitals, the institute evaluates their quality reports. Among other things, these reports document how many operations the hospitals perform, what services they offer, information on technical equipment and details of the staffing ratio.
The analysis also includes numerous other data sources and measures, such as certificates from medical associations and hygiene measures. Another important point is patient satisfaction and recommendations by colleagues. Both physicians in private practice and colleagues in other hospitals are surveyed on this. The evaluation of the various points produces the overall result. Here, medical quality receives the strongest weighting.
