Sports clinic Hellersen for the first time training center for nursing staff

Cooperation with Liebeskind Care Academy GmbH nursing school in Werdohl / Trainees start on April 20

For the first time since its opening, the Hellersen Sports Clinic will become a training facility for prospective nursing professionals today, Tuesday, April 20. This is made possible by a cooperation with the Liebeskind Care Academy, the nursing school that opened in Werdohl in October. "I am very pleased that through this cooperation, our clinic is also a station for the practical assignments of the trainees and that we can also train in the field of nursing for the first time," says hospital CEO Dirk Burghaus.

Four young people started their first day of work at the orthopedic specialty clinic on Tuesday (April 20). It is the first three-month practical assignment in their three-year training. First, they learn the basics of full inpatient nursing in practice and go through the nursing wards of the Hellersen Sports Clinic, where both orthopedic and surgical patients, for example, with knee injuries, problems with the spine to prosthesis insertions are cared for, as well as pain patients. "The prospective nursing specialists get an all-round view of our treatment spectrum," explains Dirk Burghaus.

"Thanks to the cooperation with the nursing school, it is also possible for us to train even more employees from our clinic as practical instructors. We can therefore well imagine taking on even more trainees per course in the future," adds Leonie Schaulandt, Head of Human Resources. The fourth course of the nursing school already started on December 1, so that the students of the second group can probably start their practical assignment in the summer.

"We are pleased that we, the local facilities, can support each other with this cooperation and work together to counter the shortage of skilled workers," concludes Dirk Burghaus.

In January 2020, the training of nursing, geriatric nursing and pediatric nursing was combined to form the training for nursing specialist. This means that students will no longer learn about just one area in their training, but will go through all areas of nursing.

Sylvio Wienbeck, head and managing director of the Academy (nursing school) already contacted the Hellersen Sports Clinic last year. He recalls: "Here I was received very openly and with interest. We very quickly worked out the framework conditions together, taking into account the legal basis. I am very pleased that we are the first to enter into a training cooperation with the clinic, which is very interesting for us. This provides our students with a very interesting and varied portfolio within the Hellersen Sports Clinic for insights into a specialist clinic." Both cooperation partners (clinic and school) will thus also support and further develop the offer for the so important training of nursing specialists in the region in the future.
